Housing security debate turns ugly

|   No comments

A routine discussion of community and safety issues at the Fitzroy public housing estate was cut short by a heated argument over security measures.

The dispute began when a representative from contractor Wilson Security reported security metrics for the Atherton Gardens public housing towers, including the number of people that enter without signing in.

A resident took issue with the figures and claimed they were inaccurate.

The debate drew in other residents and government representatives at the meeting, who defended or criticised the security measures.

Efforts were made to calm the vocal discussion but these failed and the meeting was called off an hour early.
