Mr Ka Chuan came to Melbourne in mid August to learn more about the project that will end in June next year. Apart from visiting Atherton Gardens housing estate, he also visited the new public housing estate that uses the green smart concept: using recycling grey water for flushing the toilet and energy efficient run buildings.
A similar approach has been implemented in Malaysia where the government has the “Green Building Index” policy to save electricity to naturally cool buildings from the heat.

"Our climate is different from Australia’s, instead of storing heat in the house, we try to rid of it,” Mr Ka Chuan said.
To tackle housing problems, the Malaysian government runs a housing rent scheme for low income earners; it costs the tenants less than $A50 per month. Tenants can live in the house as long as their income falls within the required income bracket.
