The new satellite TV channels make overseas born Collingwood public housing estate residents feel like at home.

“It’s a great project, we have been looking forward to having this satellite TV channels for sometime. Now we can watch TV programs (delivered) on our mother tongues” said Mary Ding, a resident from Chinese descent said to yarraReporter.

It is the 3rd Office of Housing project in providing satellite TV channels to Collingwood public housing estate residents; similar projects were provided to housing estates residents in Fitzroy and Richmond.  Richard Wynne, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Aboriginal Affairs attended to the launch ceremony that was held mid August.

Arabic language service TV channels can be viewed amongst other 66 free channels, but not Sudanese services.  To access the channels, residents are required to purchase set to box that costs between $100 - $150 or fully installed between $150 - $270.

This project will be expanded to other housing estates in Melbourne.
