The yarraReporters visited the newly opened 'The Social Studio' situated on Smith Street in Collingwood. The studio is a space for training up and coming designers that have come mainly from a refugee or international background.
Not only is it a retail space that sells the one-off pieces and remixed designs, but it is a place where one can relax with a delicious cup of coffee and be surrounded by the process of putting together fashion. While the project hopes to become sustainable on its own, support has come from many organisations willing to help, including Sportsgirl, RMIT University, the R.E Ross Trust and other companies.
The course aims to arm the participants with intricate skills in design as well as administrative knowledge so that they can gain employment on completion.
